Our Story

A pioneer since its inception, IPR began more than a decade ago as one of the first companies to provide electronic data backup to clients via disk-to-disk software. Before IPR, companies had no choice but to rely on traditional tape-based solutions.

Understanding the ways that our clients’ needs would grow, we continued to expand our offerings. Within two years, we began providing replication services, which gave clients a higher form of protection. With replication, their data was online all the time, making recovery much easier than from disk.

In another two years, again anticipating evolving client needs, we added archiving services. These enabled clients to securely store their ever-increasing volume of data without backing up and replicating all of it every day, delivering significant cost savings. Along the way, we introduced a range of products providing enhanced security and encryption features.

Our entry into the datacenter business came next—a logical progression as the list of clients entrusting us to store and safeguard their data grew. We opened our secure Reading, PA, datacenter with 110,000 square feet of raised floor—in 2007 followed by our 53,700-square-foot Tier III Wilmington, DE, datacenter in 2009.

Colocation services were a natural outgrowth of our move into datacenters. We had the space. And with two superior, secure data centers—located 60 miles apart but still geographically central to major data-intensive markets—we offered unparalleled redundancy to clients who had begun to clamor for it.

Which brings us to the cloud. Pioneers again, we entered the cloud business at the end of 2009 as one of the first companies in the region to offer private cloud computing for both production and disaster recovery. Today, cloud computing services is our fastest-growing offering, and we are poised for a leadership role as one of the pre-eminent private cloud hosting and cloud-based disaster recovery companies in the market.

Throughout our evolution as a company, a few things have remained constant. The first is our commitment to delivering an extraordinary experience for every customer, every time. Our responsiveness to our clients is reflected in the growth of our products and services to meet their needs—and to anticipate their future needs. It is also reflected in our client retention—more than 95 percent each year for more than 10 years.

The second constant is our flexibility. We are one of the only companies to provide both colocation and cloud services, giving clients easy access to cloud computing services as well as the ability to combine a Virtual Private Datacenter with assets they already own, collocated in one of IPR’s datacenters. We work with clients, on their terms and at their pace, to transition from colocation to private cloud production, cloud-based disaster recovery, or whatever combination best meets their requirements for security, control, and cost effectiveness.

Finally, from our start-up days—as we helped clients transition from tape-based solutions to internet-based data backup service—to today—as we work with clients in their transition to the cloud—we remain pioneers — now protecting data in 47 countries.
